Virtual worlds: building a learning experience
Given the changing context in virtual environments, we build new certainties ... and recreate the learning and teaching in this area. For this reason, we make learning Net-learning experiences in virtual worlds and participate in working groups and research to those who spend many hours of "flight" for virtual worlds.
In 2006, the magazine published Cybersociety this passage we share below ...
"Just get up slightly stained some coffee milk, took a juice and leave the sandwich in half, I'll end up at lunch. After a shower, get dressed properly, because I have class today. I go into SL and flight to a point of meeting. There I sat waiting for my students. Admittedly, despite living in different countries with different time, almost everyone has had the willingness to attend class today. If we ignore the two dragons and blue elf, most use a human appearance. Language is no problem, simultaneous translators help a lot to express. I turn on screen communication and a video starts playing. Today we'll talk about Adam Smith. Those who want more information and to know that there are links available and a page with many statistical and historical data. After the video began a lively conversation about the prevalence of the main axioms in the real economy, but little significance in the virtual. Open a working screen and ask students to contribute to make a plot with the main economic theories. With this we finish the class. Tomorrow we will do a simulated company and will have to manage a virtual business. Those who were unable to attend class, you can see the video of the class and read the chat logs. I say goodbye with a handshake and ended the connection. I have pending a sandwich. "
By then, this was an idealization of virtual reality today for many tutors, is the reality of their day to day.
Is Second Life a game?
Second Life (SL hereafter) is a 3D virtual world of multiplayer interactions. The structure is similar to the MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) like World of Warcraft Classic, although not having a defined goal (to win over the other, extending an empire ...), the peculiarities of its economy, its automation capabilities and the creation of new objects within the game preserve property rights, and particularly do very appealing to all audiences.
What is the basic operation of SL?
Access to SL is free. Just create an account with a name and an email. The action takes place through a virtual appearance, called "avatar". You can be totally faithful to the real person or a completely different picture. Basic changes the avatar (skin, body shape, colors, etc..) Are quite simple to perform, to other changes, it takes some knowledge of 3D design.
The course Second Life - 3D environment for teaching and learning is that participants can learn about the possibilities that the virtual world has to plan activities from their students within the environment and immersive activities build and integrate with Web 2.0 resources.
See you on the next boot.
